First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Bitrise.
Account Executive
The interview process went on for over two months and had 5 steps. It started with an HR screening, then there was personality and assessment testing, followed by a culture interview. After that, I met with the hiring manager and the final round was a panel presentation with sales leadership. For the last step, we had to prep a 10-minute value proposition presentation and a 30-minute territory plan. I put a lot of time into prepping this presentation. They did say that we wouldn't have all the info and to just do our best with what we could find publicly. But then, during the panel, they asked questions that needed way more internal product and competitive knowledge than they'd mentioned. It was hard to meet those expectations without internal resources or context. I met with seven people in total. After all the stages, I didn't hear back, so I emailed HR. Two days later, I got a rejection notice, about two months after I started. Management advice: Be clearer about what's expected for the final presentation. If you want us to know internal stuff and competitive positioning, tell us earlier so we can prep better. Also, maybe streamline the process since it takes so long, it feels like a waste of everyone's time.
- They wanted a 10 minute presentation and a territory plan, with zero prep given.
- After the presentation and territory plan, they asked a lot of questions about product, competitors, personas, and ICP, almost like they wanted me to fail.
Sales Operations Manager
I went through two interview rounds with Bitrise. It was interesting to see how the negative reviews about management and layoffs might reflect in the role. The interviewers were not very open about mistakes, just mentioning hypergrowth. The first interview was to check general fit, followed by a cultural interview. They didn't really explain the role in these stages, which is odd because the cultural interview asked specific questions about revops impact and approach, making it tough to answer. It was a senior role, so I assume candidates had plenty of experience, giving the impression the team wasn't sure what they were looking for. The whole process spanned over a month, and I haven't heard back two weeks after the last interview. If ghosting candidates who spent 4 hours on provided materials is their strategy, maybe it's a good thing I dodged a bullet.
- Can you share an instance where you had to deliver negative feedback to someone?
Product Marketing Manager
Had a screening call, then a culture fit call (weird it was before the hiring manager chat), then spoke with the hiring manager, and finally completed a 30-minute presentation with 12 slides. The presentation involved 11 specific tasks and I spent a whole week on it. It felt like a lot to ask to create a full GTM plan from research to KPIs and optimization, especially since it was for a fake product, which meant I had to invent the solution myself too. The feedback was just that the slides were 'very wordy', which was unhelpful and honestly felt a bit disrespectful given the effort. Looking back, it seems like they might have been trying to get free ideas rather than actually hire someone.
- Could you define product marketing in your own words?
Engineering Manager
I reached out to a current employee at Bitrise and asked them about the company and the role. The interview process involved several stages: a brief initial phone call, a culture interview with the CEO and VP of Engineering, a meeting with the CPO and a Principal Product Manager, discussions with other Engineering Managers, and a session with the HR and Recruitment Managers. All these meetings were conveniently held as a panel interview, and the company was flexible with scheduling. Additionally, I had a 50-minute Zoom call with an Engineering Manager based internationally. I received an offer within a week, which was presented by the Recruiter Manager via Zoom, detailing all aspects of the offer.
