Behavioral Technical

A few weeks after applying on the website, I was contacted by an HR talent acquisition person for a first phone interview. It was a quick 10-minute call to review my CV and discuss the job. Then, I got an email to schedule an on-site interview with the manager. She described the job and asked some specific questions about the role. After that, I had another video call with the HR talent acquisition person for a more general HR interview about my work style.

Interview was with the team via video, they were based in the Bay Area. Only three out of five folks invited actually showed up. Two of the three were so junior they didn't get what they were asking or my answers. It was weird, first time in 25 years. Two interviewers were so shy they couldn't face others and froze up like Shutterfly the pony. One had over a decade in video games, the other was a new grad with a master's. Still don't know who the hiring manager is, and the group didn't seem to know either. I never heard back. Recruiter said they usually offer or reject within 24 hours, but I've heard nothing in months. Never seen such incompetence, especially since they had jobs and I didn't. Frustrating lack of competence and professionalism. Hey Glassdoor, this was real, please don't remove my review again.

The process has 3 stages. The 1st is a phone call with HR. The 2nd is via Teams with HR and your manager (typical SMART interview questions). The 3rd is the final in-person stage (with HR, your manager, and the HR director joined). You have to present a case related to the role (how AI, automation, and ML will affect IVD suppliers). You present the case for 20 minutes. They don't give much feedback about the position. They meet expectations for response times, sending an email to inform me I wasn't selected.

So my hiring process had 3 steps: first, a call with the recruiter. Then, I had an interview over Microsoft Teams with the hiring manager. Lastly, HR and I talked about the offer and salary. The main interview had typical questions about accountability, honesty, work ethic, and how to deal with conflicts. They also asked more specific things about my lab experience and my knowledge of PCR.

  • Can you explain what PCR is and how it functions?
  • Tell me about your laboratory experience.
  • How do you demonstrate accountability?
