First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
Mentor
The interview process was quite long but interesting. It basically dug into everything about me, which I don't mind since children's mental condition requires a lot of work. It's nice that they want to make sure I'll be fine for the kids.
- Could you describe your relationship with your parents?
- Tell me about your relationship with your children.
- What is your relationship like with your partner?
Mentor
There were two interview processes that took place on the phone and in person. The phone interview was quick and easy while the in-person interview took around 45 minutes. They just needed to know more stuff about you so they could see if you could become a big brother/big sister. They were easy questions and afterwards they decided if you were going to be a good fit.
- Have you had any past experience dealing with children?
Mentor
They asked really good questions and seemed to be focused on transferable skills. It was okay with them that I hadn't done this specific job before, as long as I had experience in roles that required the same skills.
- How would you manage different volunteer mentor scenarios?
