I saw an ad on Craigslist and applied online. After a few weeks of no response, I got an email for a group interview, which seemed like a mass email. The store manager confirmed my chosen interview date (Tuesday) via email a few days later, on the morning of the interview. I arrived 15 minutes early. We were told to pick a bottle of alcohol for a sales pitch. The interview started with three other candidates and one interviewer, the store manager. It was a fun and laid-back group interview. Questions were asked to the group, with people taking turns to answer. Typical questions like 'tell me about yourself,' 'why do you want to work here,' and customer service examples were asked. He tactfully avoided uncomfortable personal questions. Then we did sales pitches. He then talked about the company and job, answered our questions, and said he'd let us know by the end of the week about hiring decisions for the 5-7 open positions. The interview lasted about 45 minutes. I sent a thank-you email on Thursday. No decision was communicated by the stated day. Weeks later, I saw my application status changed to 'closed.' I was surprised because I thought I did well, had relevant experience, and prepared my answers. I felt I performed better than some others. Maybe there were stronger candidates. It's common with chains, but I find it rude not to send rejections, especially after a thank-you note.

The interview questions were pretty direct. They wanted to know about me as a person, like what I enjoy doing. They asked if I followed the local sports teams and if I enjoyed going out, basically probing my personality. The store manager initially doubted my ability to sell due to my size, but I've been developing physically, and he's started trusting me with more responsibilities since hiring me. After getting approval from all the managers, there was also a drug test.
- Tell me about your background. Is hiring me a good investment?
- Do you consider yourself to have a fun personality?
- Are you able to persuade customers to buy wine?

For the interview, you'll need to select a product to present and sell. The interview takes place in the back of the store with the manager and about four other candidates. It's a pretty relaxed setting. They'll ask you some general questions about yourself, and then inquire about your best and worst customer service experiences. Finally, you'll present the product you chose.
- What information do you have about BevMo?
- Can you describe a positive customer interaction?
- Could you share a negative customer experience?
