I wish I had checked reviews beforehand. I was five screens into the interview loop at Betterup with only a few interviews left, but I decided to withdraw my candidacy. There's a significant lack of coordination between the interviewers, recruiter, and hiring manager. I only found out after I had started the process that they were still deciding on a remote exception for the position. The final straw for me was a really unpleasant interview that happened halfway through the loop.

The process was pretty standard. It started with a recruiter call, then a call with the Director. After that, there were onsite interviews covering coding, system design, product knowledge, and cultural fit. I did well in the onsite interviews and got good feedback. Then, I had a final call with the CTO to discuss my past work history and reasons for leaving my previous jobs. Despite passing all the interviews, I received a rejection email. When I asked for feedback, the recruiter said it's their policy not to give detailed feedback, which felt rude given the effort I put in. I won't recommend this company and wouldn't consider them again.

The interview process spanned a few weeks and was a really pleasant and engaging experience throughout. It started with an initial chat with the recruiter to introduce myself, get an overview of the company and product, and have my questions answered. Next, I had a video call with Vanessa, a Software Engineer, who really made me enthusiastic about BetterUp. We discussed some technical and behavioral topics, and she shared detailed insights into the team structure, company mission, and values. Then came a take-home assignment: building an Android app according to a tech spec. It was convenient because there wasn't a strict deadline, allowing me to manage my time flexibly. After completing it successfully, I was invited for the onsite interviews. A nice surprise at this stage was receiving a book as a gift! The virtual onsite interview, lasting about 3 hours, involved meeting more team members. There were no white-boarding or coding exercises; instead, a few technical questions related to my home assignment, along with behavioral and mindset questions. It felt more like a natural conversation than a formal interview. Following this, the recruiter, Andy, provided constructive feedback, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement, which was super helpful. The final step was supposed to be a meeting with one of the founders, but it was skipped since I was pressed for time due to other pending offers. I received a very competitive offer with great salary, equity, and benefits, including a coaching program. I also got personalized welcome emails from interviewers and potential colleagues. Ultimately, I decided not to join BetterUp, which was tough, but I accepted an offer from a company in an industry that interests me more.
