Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Better.
Senior Manager
It was a bunch of interviews with some directors and a recruiter, all back-to-back on the same day. Then there was a second step where I had to do a case study and present it to more directors.
- Can you share an instance where you had to make a significant decision independently, without consulting your manager?
- Tell me about a situation where you faced challenges in your leadership role.
Team Manager
The interview process began with a positive recruiter call. Following that, there was an easy assessment. I was prepared to present my deck in three back-to-back Zoom interviews, which was challenging due to my frequent travel. However, it wasn't until the last interview that I inquired about presenting my PowerPoint. I was then informed that I should have presented earlier, leading to a delay of about a week in rescheduling. The final interview with the hiring manager was disappointing due to unprofessionalism towards the end. Despite the recruiter's initial professionalism, I was ultimately ghosted. When I followed up for feedback on areas for improvement, I received no response from any of the four interviewers. While I understand it's a busy period, I wish I had a better overall experience with this company.
- Can you discuss basic management principles?
Manager
Applied online and then heard back from the recruiter after nearly two months. There was a recruiter phone screen, followed by several calls with the hiring manager. The final round was quite lengthy, involving 4-5 people, and included a case study and presentation. The case study itself was poorly managed; I received the prompt only two days before the final round and had to submit my response the day before, giving me just one day to complete it. The onsite interviews were okay, with not many difficult questions, but half the time was spent with the interviewers talking about themselves. After that, they went silent for a while. I had to follow up a few times to get my rejection letter, which came with no feedback. The reason given was basically misalignment with current needs. If my experience was misaligned, why wasn't this communicated earlier, especially after several phone conversations? After investing significant time and effort, it felt like the company didn't consider the basic candidate experience or its impact on company reputation. Very upset about this whole thing. Also, the titles there seem super inflated.
