Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at bet365.
Software Developer
Had an initial call that was less than 30 minutes where they talked about the role and I gave a summary of my background. The role sounds interesting and I was excited to learn more. After that, I had a first stage interview with a manager. They asked about my experience and for a general overview of a project I worked on previously. The interview didn't go as well as I'd hoped, as I was told I wasn't using the STAR method for my answers. I understand STAR is common, but I felt the questions asked weren't really behavioral and didn't lend themselves to that method. I think the questions could have been phrased in a more behavioral way, or if they're going to ask closed-ended questions, they shouldn't expect STAR. I appreciate the feedback, and while I know interviews aren't my strongest point, I feel like both sides could have contributed more to make it a better conversation.
- Can you give a high-level overview of a previous project you worked on?
- What was the size of the team you were working with?
- What software methodology did your team use?
Senior Software Developer
I had a phone chat first, then travelled to Manchester for an in-person interview. It was a standard setup: they went over my CV, asked the usual questions, and gave me a tech test. The test was really basic, just enough to weed out people who knew absolutely nothing without making them too stressed. Although the interviewers were really nice and explained the department clearly, I couldn't get them to tell me what the actual job involved. This made me suspect there wasn't a real job. Afterwards, the agent ghosted me and didn't reply to my calls, so I'm assuming they knew there was no job opening.
- Can you tell me about your strengths?
Software Engineer
I got to show off my technical skills and talk about my past work. The interviewers asked some tough technical questions that really tested what I know and how I solve problems. I felt good answering them, showing I know the stuff and can actually use it. They also wanted to hear about my previous jobs, like what projects I did, what problems came up, and how I fixed them. I told them about what I accomplished, stressing how I worked with others and could jump into different places and use new tech. I also talked about what I learned from it all and how it changed how I tackle issues and make choices.
- What did you do in your last role?
- Can you describe your experience from your previous employment?
