Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Best Buddies International.
Program Manager
Applied online and had a phone screen. Since I was at school, they let me do a skype interview for the second round. It was super informal, felt like just chatting. They were definitely checking if I fit their team. Had a couple more phone screenings, and then they offered me the job.
- Can you share an instance where you had to support someone who was unlike you?
Program Manager
I had a phone interview and then a Skype interview. We had to do the phone interview twice because the interviewer lost his notes from the first one. I was really interested in the role, but the lack of communication and organization really put me off the opportunity. Even though I reached out several times after my interviews, I never got a formal response about the job status. I was disappointed because I'd heard great things about Best Buddies--it seemed like they were going through a lot of changes and had a lot happening at the office at the time that made things more hectic than usual.
- When you start a new role, are you someone who dives right in, or do you prefer to hang back and observe first?
Program Manager
I had a phone interview, then an online personality test, followed by an in-person interview. The wait time was really long, and the staff seemed unprofessional. There was no follow-up, and I had to follow up many times. The office staff didn't relay messages, and I expected them to know more about people with disabilities. It just seemed like the staff was having fun and not really taking their jobs seriously.
- Tell me about your experience working with people with disabilities.
