So I interviewed for an entry level immigration assistant role. The interviewer was 5 minutes late and didn't say anything about it. She asked me about my immigration experience and two other questions. Then she said they were looking for someone with more paralegal experience, but she'd keep my resume on file. I couldn't ask any questions and the interview only lasted 5 minutes. Her tone was monotone and she spent most of the time looking at another screen. I'm glad I didn't get an offer since I wouldn't want to work at a place where that attitude might be shown to clients.

I saw the Immigration Assistant job on Craigslist and a recruiter called me to schedule an interview with 3 attorneys at their Dallas office. They asked me some standard interview questions and were friendly, so it felt pretty natural. After the first interview, I was invited back for a second one with two coworkers. They also asked standard interview questions like if I had immigration experience, why I wanted to work there, how organized I am, and about an accomplishment I'm proud of. Then I had a written assessment where I had to say if two things were the same or different, circling the ones that were. After that, I did a reading comprehension section where I answered questions about what I read. Lastly, I had to circle if words were misspelled and give their correct definition.

Got an interview quickly but it took a whole month to hear back that I didn't get the job. Before the interview, I had to get my salary expectations and a writing sample ready. Two young lawyers interviewed me with pretty direct questions, then I was sent to an exam room. The test was meant to check my analytical, writing, and detail-oriented skills. The process felt fair, but the waiting and lack of communication was rough. I never got a real rejection letter and was left hanging for weeks until I reached out myself. It was a bad experience and showed how poorly BAL communicates.
