Technical Support Engineer
The role was advertised on the company website, so I applied there. The first step was a preliminary technical phone call. If that went well, I had an in-person technical interview. After that, there was a final HR interview.
- What are the SFD & BMD of a beam (simply supported, cantilever, contiguous beam)?
- Can you discuss queries related to design codes like IS 800:2007, IS 456:2000, IS 13920, IS 1893, and IS 875?
Technical Support Engineer
It started with an HR call where they asked about my salary expectations and work authorization for Poland. Then I had an interview with the team lead and a senior person from the UK. It was a friendly chat, and I passed. I got the job offer, but then issues started. They offered a salary lower than what we agreed upon, even though they asked for a range earlier. I find this unacceptable because it wastes time. When I asked why, they said the offer was based on UK benchmarks even though the job is in Poland.
- Can you tell me about yourself and your experiences?
- What are your salary expectations?
- Can you confirm your authorization to work in Poland?
Technical Support Engineer
The interview involved a 10-minute demonstration of the in-house software by the hiring manager, followed by a 10-minute discussion about my knowledge of the role. There was also a 10-minute segment about my background, touching on my BSc in Software Engineering and any work experience. The whole video call on MS Teams with the hiring manager lasted about 40 minutes. Only a few candidates would be contacted for a second round interview within a week. Ultimately, I was informed after a week that I wasn't a good fit due to lacking 'technical support background', despite the job ad saying helpdesk experience wasn't required. This makes the job description misleading. It feels like companies prefer 'ready-made' candidates even for entry-level roles, rather than investing in potential new hires, making degrees feel less relevant for newcomers.
- Can you tell me what you know about the software used at Bentley Systems?
- What do you anticipate being the biggest challenge for you in this role?
- What do you consider to be the 5 most important factors when providing support?
