First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at BENlabs.
Software Engineer
Went through 4 rounds of interviews. Everyone I interviewed with liked me and wanted to move forward. Had to wait an additional 2 weeks for an answer because the recruitment team was "putting out fires", only to be told that the position is being put on hold until 2024. What a huge waste of time. Don't initiate with this company, there is no guarantee you're even applying for a real position.
- Can you identify palindromes in a list of strings?
Data Scientist
I was asked a software engineering question, which was supposed to be a breath first search question. I initially misunderstood it and wrote code for my interpretation. When I realized my mistake, I tried to adapt my code, but then decided to scrap it and start over. My interviewer then took a phone call for over 5 minutes. By the time they got back, I knew the answer and how to code it, but I ran out of time and just explained it verbally. It felt very unprofessional.
- A question that seemed to involve breath first search was posed.
Growth Engineer
The interview process was pretty simple. After meeting a bunch of people at the company, the recruiter just ghosted me after the technical round. I mean, getting ghosted after the first or second round is one thing, but this was like the 6th round. Some red flags were already popping up, like folks on the team mentioning the company's lack of structure and being cagey about opportunities for advancement, but everyone was nice until the communication just stopped.
- What do you know about BEN?
Corporate Counsel
The hiring process was quick and welcoming. My questions were answered promptly by the team, who were friendly and genuinely interested in my career growth. They were upfront about the role's responsibilities. It felt like an authentic exchange to see if we were a good fit, rather than just a standard procedure to fill an opening. I left with the impression that I would be truly valued, not just another replaceable employee. This has turned out to be accurate.
- Can you describe a difficult situation you encountered in your previous role and the solution you implemented?
