Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Benefitfocus.
Account Manager
It was a really quick phone screening at first. Then I had an interview on an Open House day. I met with 3 current employees. It was a super chill interview, not like most others I've done. They asked a lot of stuff to get to know me better as a person, not really job-related questions.
- What song describes you?
- What song would be playing as you walked up to bat?
Account Manager
I had a phone chat with the recruiter first, then another phone call with the hiring manager. After that, I went in person to meet with the hiring manager, their boss, and someone who works with the hiring manager. The recruiter wasn't the best, but the rest of the process with the hiring manager and the others was nice and professional. I ended up with a good grasp of where the company is headed, how they treat their employees and customers, and what they expect from me.
- Tell me about your experience managing customer accounts.
- Describe your approach to building and nurturing customer relationships.
- What are your strategies for engaging with C-level executives at client companies?
Account Manager
There were 4 interviews in total. It started with a recruiter phone call, then 3 in-person interviews. They asked a lot about dealing with angry clients and if I was okay with working overtime. They weren't too worried that I didn't have software experience, as long as I had account management experience. They mentioned it's a tough place to work because of how fast it's been growing.
- Suppose a client needs an immediate software change to allow employee enrollment in benefits, and it's 5:25 PM on a Friday before a holiday weekend. What's your course of action?
- Tell me about your experience managing upset clients.
- What's your perspective on working overtime?
