First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Belvedere Trading.
Intern
The first interview was a video call with three parts. It started with fit questions like 'why trading,' 'why Belvedere,' and 'what interests you.' Then, we talked about the intern program specifically (Trader Trainee for me) and Belvedere in general, including how they work and the full-time experience. The last and longest part involved a series of mental math and expected value problems, which came quickly, sometimes building on each other. No pen or paper allowed. My interviewer was really patient and helpful when I got stuck or made math mistakes. I was told I'd hear back within two weeks about the final round, which includes a trip to Chicago for a super-day (expenses paid).
- Could you tell me what 1/32 is as a decimal?
- For a raffle with 10,000 tickets, where one person wins $5,000, two win $1,000, and ten win $100, what would be your offer to play?
Intern
I had a phone interview. They asked some probability questions and some mental math questions. They weren't too difficult except I froze up on one of them which probably got me dinged. They also asked some basic questions about my education and background. It seemed like a pretty laid back environment as the two people interviewing me were wearing shorts in the office.
- Could you tell me the expected value of a 6 sided fair die?
Internship
You had to take an online probability test first, and if you passed, you could move on. I didn't pass the online probability test. I wasn't really prepared for the probability questions, and there was a short time limit to do them.
- If a coin is flipped 10 times and lands on tails, what's the probability that the coin is unfair?
