Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Belk.
Sales
I sent in my resume and then got a call for an interview the very same day. The interview was the next day, so I had to cram and research stuff the night before. I only had one interview round. It was with two managers, but they tried to make it feel pretty chill.
- Could you start by telling us about yourself?
- What prompted your departure from your previous role?
- What is your understanding of Belk?
Sales Supervisor
The interview process was pretty straightforward. A manager from the store called me to set up the first interview. The first interview lasted about twenty minutes and focused on my previous work experience and my personal goals and activities outside of work. It was a really enjoyable meeting with a relaxed and casual vibe, and the manager was very friendly and personal. She actually called me the next day to schedule the second interview with the store manager. The second interview was a bit more formal, with more in-depth questions about my work experience and tricky 'what if' scenarios involving customers. This second manager was also really friendly and kind; we even chatted about more personal stuff! It seems like a great team! The whole process took about 10 days, but it would have been faster, maybe 4 or 5 days, if the store manager hadn't been sick.
- Regarding my past work experience, tell me about it.
- What about your personal goals and activities outside of work?
- What would you do in hypothetical 'what if' customer situations?
Sales
It was a standard interview with HR. They asked mostly behavioral questions. It was a short interview, professional and friendly. Not too hard. It was a nice intro before the real questions. I didn't take the job because the salary was pretty low and they don't give much of an employee discount.
- Can you share an instance where you had to de-escalate a situation with a dissatisfied customer?
