Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Belcan.
Software Engineer
I had an interview with a manager and another person. They asked me about my background and my thoughts on older programming languages. They brought up someone I used to work with who is now at Belcan and asked what I thought of my other former colleagues, like they wanted to compare it to his opinion. Both interviewers made comments about my 'extensive experience' and how 'it's amazing someone like you can still learn new programming languages,' which I took as a jab at my age (53). I never heard back from them.
- Can you share your opinion of a previous colleague?
- What are your thoughts regarding your other former coworkers?
- What is your perspective on older computer languages?
Software Engineer
The interview process typically involves several steps. It begins with an initial screening call. After that, there will be one or more interviews to check your technical skills, how you solve problems, and if you fit the team culture. Depending on the specific job, you might have to do some assessments, case studies, or coding challenges. The last part usually means talking with the hiring managers or senior people before they decide. This whole thing can take a few weeks, and they'll keep you updated on what's next and the timeline.
- Could you describe your background and explain how it matches the requirements of this position?
Software Engineer
The recruiter was really pushy, initially seeming to offer one thing and then trying to change it, and then asked illegal medical questions. They tried to get personal background info to use against me and then low-balled an offer like a shady salesman, switching from salary to contractor. The worst part was asking about my medical history and any health issues.
- Do you have any serious medical conditions that require health coverage?
- Why can't you get COBRA for yourself?
