Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Bechtel Plant Machinery.
Engineer
The interview process includes typical mechanical engineering questions, suitable for recent graduates or those with some industry experience. While they can't reveal all details due to the nature of the work, showing interest in relevant areas will be noticed. It involves a panel interview with 2-3 managers and a separate interview with 1-2 senior engineers from the target team. Expressing interest in the Navy or nuclear energy is crucial for consideration.
- Could you tell me about your experience with rotating machinery?
- If you have experience with rotating machinery, are you familiar with the general design and manufacturing process for its individual components?
Engineer
I had a phone interview that was about an hour long, then I went in for a half-day onsite interview where I met with several different managers and HR. After that, I had lunch with the hiring manager and someone else offsite.
- Tell me about a time you collaborated with individuals from various departments to achieve a shared objective.
Engineer
I had an on-site interview that lasted about 5 hours. First, I met with someone from HR to discuss the company and some general information. Then, I had a conversation with a senior engineer who was leading the interviews. It felt more like a chat than a formal interview, and we talked for about an hour about some general questions. After that, I met a newer engineer to learn about the company culture and ask them questions. Finally, the lead interviewer returned with two other engineers for a panel interview. We finished with a lunch meeting with the newer engineer I spoke with earlier. It was a pretty standard interview process, and I had plenty of chances to ask questions and see if it was a good fit for me.
- Have you written technical white papers before?
