I was contacted online for a phone interview, but the interviewer cancelled via email after I had already waited for 30 minutes past the scheduled time. This happened a second time. Eventually, I had a 1:1 interview for the assistant management position. I traveled a long distance to a mall far from my home. I felt my college education and higher education would be valuable for building relationships with a multi-generational brand like BCBGeneration, which targets 20-30 year olds. I believe a diverse work environment is beneficial. I was asked about my "brand fit," and I said I've worn the brand since the 90s. With my extensive sales background, assistant store management would be a natural career step. I was then invited to interview with the BCBG Maxazria brand, expecting it to be for the assistant management role as their emails suggested we were "all on the same page." I had another 1:1 interview with their store manager, who was great and understood my experience. They emphasized personal client relationship building, which is my strength. However, during the interview, I learned it was for a stylist position, not assistant management. This was disappointing because, although I might have considered it, the pay wasn't comparable to my previous job. The manager mentioned she was only looking for stylists and had many assistant managers. I was upset as I had prepared and dressed up for an interview that was not a comparable role or pay to my last job. I wish this had been communicated earlier so I could have declined the interview.

I sent my resume online and got a call back a few days later to set up a 1:1 interview. The first interview was with the Store Manager, pretty chill, asking about me and why I wanted to work at BCBG. It was about an hour long. At the end, they asked if I could come back the next day for an 'interactive' interview where I'd work the floor during peak hours to see how I handle customers and staff. The next day, I worked for about 1.5 hours. Afterward, the Manager said I did well and wanted to set up a third interview with the District Manager. She said she'd call Monday to schedule it. I didn't get a call until Wednesday, and we set up the interview for the next day. I met the District Manager for about an hour, and she asked pretty much the same questions as the Store Manager. At the end, she said she'd call by the end of the next week either way. I finally got a call a week and a half later. They didn't offer me the Second Assistant Manager job, but instead offered me a Sales Associate role at a different store.

I talked to the district manager first. It was a pretty formal interview. Then I spoke with the Store Manager for the specific store I was interviewing for. After that, I did a hands-on interview where I spent a few hours in the store working with the team and getting a feel for the product and the store's vibe.
