BCBG Designer Interview Questions
& Process

I got recruited for this job via JBC Styles. A recruiter from JBC Styles interviewed me to figure out what companies I'd be a good fit for. After an hour, we did a portfolio presentation and she scheduled me for an interview at BCBG the next day. The interview process at BCBG was great. They asked me about my background and what I'd bring to the company, and I also did a portfolio presentation. I was hired to start the following week.

I got an email from the recruiter, and even though I'd heard bad things about the company, I decided to hear them out. First, I had a phone interview with their HR director. Then, I came in for a formal interview with both the recruiter and a senior design team member. We talked about my portfolio, resume, and generally how I could fit in. They asked me to do a design project, which is normal for designers with my experience. I agreed to have it done in two weeks, and we scheduled a second meeting. The recruiter told me that this was only the second time they'd asked someone for a project in four months, so I took it as a good sign and worked hard on it. I was excited for the second meeting, but to my surprise, I was only meeting with the recruiter, not the person who assigned the project. The recruiter looked at it and asked to reschedule and leave the project with them. Red flags were going up, but I needed the job, so I agreed. The next meeting was cancelled. I emailed about my project, but got no response. I emailed again and again. Finally, I mentioned my intellectual property rights, and I got an almost immediate response saying they were looking for the work. They never found it. I sent them an invoice, and after six months and many emails, they paid it. Obviously, they didn't offer me the job, and I wouldn't have taken it anyway.

First, I talked to the recruiter on the phone. Then, I met with the supervisor. After that, HR contacted me about benefits, salary, and any other needs. Then I waited for their email for the offering, and I could decide whether to accept it or not, and of course, negotiate it.
