Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at BBVA.
Corporate Finance Intern
The first interview had basic questions and accounting tests. Nobody told me there would be an assessment, so I couldn't prep. The test was filling in blanks in a Balance sheet and Income statement.
- Can you tell me why you applied for this specific internship?
Economist
The first interview was pretty chill, I talked about my past research and work experience. It was held at a professional conference, which made it less nerve-wracking. The second interview happened much later after some re-orgs at the bank, and it was a phone call with a senior person. I also had to give a presentation.
- Given your dissertation is in xxxx, how would you pivot to specializing in xxx for our needs?
Bank Teller
My hiring process was a bit different. A family member referred me, and after I applied, I was contacted within days. I ended up playing phone tag with HR for three weeks. Finally, I spoke with the HR rep and got scheduled for an interview the following week. The interview itself was pretty typical. The manager seemed really relaxed, and they explained the job duties and what's expected daily and quarterly. The interview lasted about 30 minutes, mostly thanks to the assistant manager who asked a ton of questions, though it was a bit awkward. I managed it though.
- Can you describe a challenging client interaction you handled over the phone, detailing the situation, your actions, and the client's reaction?
