Saw the job on Careerbuilder and checked out the website. It looked young and fun. The website was clean and easy to navigate, and the social media links were useful. When I arrived, a friendly person at the front desk gave me some standard paperwork. After I finished it, I only waited about 10 minutes before meeting one of the hiring managers. He asked me about 6-8 questions and then told me about the business. BBS is a direct sales firm that works with some big clients. I was surprised to see they work with companies like Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. They were also mentioned in the Boston Globe, which I thought was cool. They asked me to come back for a second interview to meet with a top account manager. We went out for lunch, and that's when they really went over the details of the job. They discussed base salary, benefits, health insurance, gas reimbursements, and so on. I got the offer two days later.

I saw the company on job sites and did my own research. I wanted a career with growth and sales/marketing experience. I scheduled an interview. The office was easy to get to and the lobby was nice with TVs showing ESPN. The hiring manager asked me random questions about my resume, and the interview lasted about 30 minutes. The second interview was with a top account manager where we discussed the business details like expansion, growth, pay, benefits, and travel. I got offered the job by the end of the week.

I was contacted by BBS without applying after they found my resume on Monster, to discuss a career change. It seemed too good to be true, and I had the usual suspicion about roles not applied to. Reading reviews about "drinking the kool-aid" seemed accurate, and the company structure felt like a pyramid scheme. I believe success is possible with effort and luck, but the environment wasn't for me.

  • Be sure you know how to interview for a sales position during the second round in-depth interview.
  • Google passed me that interview.
