Project Manager
The interview was structured and engaging, they looked for leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills. Questions touched on project planning, risk management, and coordinating with stakeholders. It was a good chance to show my experience and strategic thinking.
- Tell me about your project management background.
Project Manager
First, there was a chat with the recruiter, which was nice and informative. Then, I had an interview with my potential manager and a coworker. They were super welcoming and positive, making me feel comfortable. The last part was a presentation to the department head, manager, and coworker. The department head was late, kept cutting me off during my presentation even though there was a Q&A section planned, was rude, and then blamed me for the presentation running long before leaving early.
- Can you share an example of how you've positively impacted customer registration in past positions?
Project Manager
It was a typical 3-part panel interview, a competency-based one, with a Product Manager, the hiring manager, and a senior person from development. They seemed quite tired, maybe they'd had a lot of interviews that day, so it was hard to follow their train of thought. They asked 9 questions in 60 minutes, which is really pushing it, I'd say it would need at least 1.5 hours, especially since each question has several parts to cover. It seemed like no one got hired from these interviews, which I think was down to the job description not being very clear and the communication being a bit off. What sounded like a standard agile project manager role actually had some unique but crucial aspects that I wasn't prepared for and weren't really mentioned beforehand. These details only came out at the very end when they finally described the role and the product properly (which wasn't even the product I thought I was interviewing for!). I had some really strong examples I could have used, but the lack of clarity on what they were looking for meant I couldn't. As usual with these interviews, they incorrectly assume that under interview pressure, you can easily recall the best example for a question when you don't even know the context. There were also some issues with strong interviewer accents and internal jargon that made one part of the interview totally unclear.
- Is it true you've never managed a project from the initial idea stage with the team all the way through to delivery?
