Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at BBC.
Intern
There was a presentation with other applicants and staff, and the discussions were held professionally. A tour of the building was included, the atmosphere was friendly, and preparation for interviews was good. They provided lovely and detailed responses and thorough feedback.
- What makes you the right candidate for this role?
Intern
nothing special to tell, just an example here and nothing really okay but a normal interview with a fit part and certain number of questions regarding previous experiences and expectations
- How are you doing and what brings you here?
Intern
Since there's hardly any internship culture outside of management consulting in Russia, I proactively reached out to media outlets I was interested in to see if they'd take me on as an intern. I found some contact details for BBC Moscow staff online (their website wasn't helpful) and got in touch in early June. They replied within a couple of weeks and invited me for an interview. I was traveling then, so I asked to postpone the interview by two weeks, which they agreed to. The interview took place in mid-August, lasted about ten minutes, and was with the head of BBC Russia and the leader of the production team. The whole thing was conducted in English. They asked about my motivations for the internship and for my thoughts on current events. I was offered the position immediately and was given a start date in mid-August. Just be sure your English is solid and skim some newspapers for a couple of weeks beforehand (Kommersant and Vedomosti would be your best bet).
- There were none of those.
- The interviewers were both very friendly and nice and the questions were predictable.
