First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at BB&T.
Investment Banking Analyst
First, there was an on-campus interview with 3 associates/analysts who asked a lot about my background. Then I got invited to Superday. The day before, there was a networking dinner and we went out after. The interviews the next day began at 8 am. There were 9 interviews in a row, mostly with managing directors but also some associates. The more senior folks asked behavioral and strategic questions, while the less senior ones focused on technical topics.
- Can you explain how the three main financial statements are interconnected?
Investment Banking Analyst
The superday had about 5 or 6 interviews, each lasting 30 minutes. Some were 1-on-1, others were 2-on-1, with interviewers ranging from Analysts all the way up to Managing Directors. We also had lunch in between. They asked standard technical questions about finance, accounting, and modeling. There were also some questions that required more creative thinking, like comparing the expected balance sheets of two different companies. A big part of the interviews focused on fit, specifically asking about my interest in Richmond and BB&T.
- What would you expect to see on the balance sheet of X company versus Y company?
- Are you familiar with a Leveraged Buyout (LBO)?
Investment Banking Analyst
I applied through my school and got a phone interview. The person was very nice and we had a good discussion around the technicals he asked me. We had a really good discussion about my home town and BC football.
- Can you explain the different methods of valuation?
- What are the different types of synergies?
- Given two companies with identical revenue and industry, what could explain a difference in their valuation?
