Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at BAT.
Management Trainee
We had an assessment center at a specific place, and a bunch of us candidates did different things like group exercises, individual presentations, and negotiation tasks. They were checking out a bunch of skills and stuff. The assessment center took place at a designated location with several candidates participating in various activities, including group exercises, individual presentations, and negotiation tasks. The evaluation process assessed a range of skills and competencies.

Technology Manager
So I talked to an external recruiter first. Then I had this video call for an hour with two people from the team. They mostly asked me about my past experiences and why I was interested in this job. After that, I had to do a task and present it to them in two weeks. That presentation was about half an hour long, and then they asked me questions about it. It was a bit weird that the external recruiter was in on both of those interviews. The recruiter then asked me how I thought the interviews went, and said the team liked me but hadn't decided yet. Then things got really weird. It was radio silence for over a month. I emailed and called the recruiter a few times, and he finally said he'd get back to me with a decision soon. He called later to say they picked someone else because that candidate had previous experience in a certain area. I felt that was really misleading since they didn't need to waste my time with that second interview if that was the case. They also could have been clearer about what they were looking for earlier on.

Manager
The HR team at this company is fantastic. From the very first contact, the HR person was really on top of things until the selection was made. Communication was always great, and they genuinely cared about me as a candidate. The whole process was super quick, and I heard back in less than two weeks. It involved two interviews back-to-back, followed by a group assessment. Right after that, we got feedback from the selected candidate, covering both what went well and areas for improvement during the assessment. Honestly, it's one of the best hiring processes I've experienced because it was so transparent, fast, and they kept me in the loop the whole time. It's not often that companies take the time to give candidates feedback and build a real connection, which really builds trust and shows the company in a great light. Big props to this company's HR team for their excellent work.
