The interview process involved 2 rounds. The first was an HR screening, followed by an hour-long phone interview with the manager, Jeff Hjelm. He was incredibly kind and took time to introduce me to the company, despite his 25 years there. I was informed that the next round, an onsite interview, would be in a couple of weeks at their Springfield, MO office. Sadly, due to a hiring freeze caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, I was not hired.

So this was a really weird interview. It didn't feel welcoming and I felt kind of intimidated by the questions, and they kept pushing on my answers to make me fit a certain narrative. I get that's what interviews are for, but we already did a phone interview where we discussed stuff, and they'd give me a look if my answers didn't exactly match what I said on the phone.

We began with a tour of the store where I was asked to point out parts that could be better, how balanced things were, what certain areas were meant to draw attention to, and how I'd fix or enhance them. Following that, we had a more typical sit-down interview where they asked about my past work.
