Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Bass Pro Shops.
Manager
First, there was a pre-screen call over the phone, then an in-person interview, and finally a teams meeting with HR. The experience was good through all parts, and I enjoyed our honest talks. They asked questions about company culture, my experience, and situational things.
- Can you describe a situation where you needed to have a challenging discussion with a colleague?
Risk Management
It took a really long time for them to decide on a candidate, and then they expected the candidate to accept immediately. They also discouraged giving adequate notice to their current employer. The company culture seems to be 'us' (management) versus 'them' (employees), with little respect for lower-level staff. They don't treat 'professionals' professionally. There's a lot of arrogance from management. Information needed to do a job well isn't shared; everything is kept secret by upper management. They manage by intimidation and create fear of job loss.
- Would you be willing to shorten your notice period with your current employer?
- Does it really make a difference, since you aren't planning on returning to your previous job, are you?
Manager
It was an easy interview process. The interview wasn't really hard. The manager I spoke with seemed pretty relaxed. We met at a restaurant and it was dead there. There were hardly any staff, and the ones there were on their phones. That felt unprofessional.
- What's the inside temperature of chicken?
