So, there were two stages. First was with HR and the Hiring Manager. HR hit me with the usual: general stuff, asked about my visa status, and what I was looking for salary-wise. Then the HM jumped in with some science questions. Stage two was more intense, digging deeper into things. They also wanted me to put together a 30-minute PowerPoint presentation about a past experience I'm really proud of.

I applied on their website and then got an email from HR to set up a phone screening. It was a 30-minute call with mostly behavior-based questions. They said I passed and the next step was a one-way video interview using HireVue. It felt weird talking to a webcam, but HireVue offers practice questions which I really suggest doing to get comfortable with the system. They only ask 5-10 questions during the actual interview, which were general questions like why BASF and why this job, plus some questions about my experience. There might have been a couple of behavioral questions too. About two weeks later, I had an on-site panel interview with five people. They said it would be behavior-based, but about 40% of the questions were actually technical. I got a job offer about a week after that. The HR department was really responsive and paid back my travel expenses quickly, which was awesome.

The hiring process moved really slowly, taking over 3 months. The final onsite interview was quite brief and didn't really give me a good sense of the job, the team, or a chance to show off my skills. I asked for a tour of the lab, but that didn't happen. The main HR contact and the interviewers were really nice, though. The whole experience felt a bit impersonal. I didn't get any feedback after the interview when I asked for it.
