Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Bark.
Software Engineer
We kicked things off with a quick call with the tech recruiter. Then, there was a take-home coding challenge using Ruby on Rails. After that, I had a review session with a senior software engineer. Following that, we did some whiteboarding and database modeling with another senior engineer. Later, I interviewed with the Product Manager, followed by a behavioral interview, and finally, an interview with the CTO.
- What are your thoughts on how to correct a mistake made in the coding challenge?
Software Engineer
I had a phone screen with a recruiter, just some general questions. Then, another phone screen with the engineering manager where we talked about my past technical experience. After that, I got a take-home assignment to complete using Ruby on Rails. Next, there were two one-hour interviews with team members where they reviewed my take-home assignment. Finally, I had a phone call with a VP, and then they made me an offer.
- Could you describe how you would design the data models for an application that handles subscriptions?
Software Engineer
It was a call with a recruiter, then a phone screen with an engineering manager, followed by an offline coding challenge. After that, there was an in-person round with engineers, and finally phone calls with the CTO and VP of Engineering. While most interviewers were friendly, the startup vibe meant things were a bit disorganized, with timings often off and slow email responses. The VP of Engineering's style was also more confrontational than typical. Honestly, the process felt too long for the information gained, and I'd probably advise pushing back on the coding challenge part.
- Tell me about yourself and your experiences.
- How would you design a large-scale system like Twitter or Facebook?
