First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Barbour.
Sales Representative
It was pretty straightforward and chill. They asked about my background and when I could start. We did it over Zoom since I couldn't get to the store. They also asked about my schooling and how I'd deal with different customer situations. Overall, it was a good experience.
- How would you respond to a customer's question?
Sales Associate
Applied on Indeed and got a call from them before the actual interview. The interview itself was a phone call. I wasn't hired because I mentioned I wouldn't want to work on Christmas Eve.
- Can you tell me about your availability?
- Are you looking for part-time or full-time employment?
Store Manager
I had a phone interview first. Then, I was asked to travel to NYC for an in-person interview, and Barbour covered the travel expenses. This involved visiting two store locations. Following that, I had another interview scheduled at the Philadelphia store to discuss feedback from the site visits. However, I was made to wait at both the NYC and Philadelphia locations, which gave me the impression that my time was not valued as highly as the interviewers'. Ultimately, I received an email nine days after my final interview stating I was no longer being considered, and I assume I wasn't the right fit.
- Given that the store might close in two years, how would you approach that situation?
- The interviewer didn't do a great job 'selling' the company. Could you articulate how you would present the company to a potential candidate?
- I love the product, so I kept pursuing the opportunity.
Brand Merchandising Manager
There were two interviews. The first was a standard face-to-face where we discussed my CV. The second interview involved a take-home challenge that I had to present back to them. This part felt really unorganised as they were developing a new role and seemed unsure about the job's responsibilities. They provided minimal guidance and sent over several large, unorganised Excel spreadsheets for me to work with. I created a presentation based on what I thought they wanted, but their subsequent feedback was extremely patronising and indicated I hadn't met their expectations.
- Can you describe how you would work to increase profit margins for specific products?
