First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Banque Nationale du Canada/National Bank of Canada.
Investment Banking Analyst
About a month after applying, I got a call about an interview. It was a quick one, they asked some basic questions. I think they don't hire off-cycle much unless you're a perfect fit, even though I did well on the technical parts like stock pitch, deal pitch, DCF walkthrough, and accretion dilution.

Investment Banking Associate
You'll start with a recruiter call where you'll talk about your education and career, especially your history with the firm. Then, there's a part where you introduce yourself and walk through your resume, with a big focus on your education and past work experience. After that, you'll get hit with technical questions about valuation methods and accounting stuff. You'll also need to pitch a stock or industry, either bullish or bearish, and really sell why you picked it over others. There will be some behavioral questions too. Finally, you get a chance to ask the recruiter some questions.
- Could a company ever have a negative cash conversion cycle, and if so, how?
Investment Banking Analyst
It was a 1-hour interview with 2 people for 30 minutes each. They asked about fit, technical questions, and to pitch a stock or recent M&A. I prepped for the technical part with Wall Street Prep.
- Can you pitch a stock for me?
