Bankers Life Manager Interview Questions
& Process

I got a call from the recruiter about an entry level manager job at a place called Bankers. I asked if it was for an insurance agent role and if it was commission only, as I'm not interested in that. They assured me it was a financial services role and that commission was just one way they got paid, and that there was an entry level manager position. When I got there, the recruiter took me to a room with a bunch of other people and gave us a pamphlet. The Unit Sales Manager started asking everyone how long we've lived here, how much we wanted to make the first year, and what we were looking for in a job. He was really pushy and made condescending jokes when people didn't answer immediately. About an hour into his sales pitch about how much money agents make, he asked if anyone had decided this wasn't the job for them. I was one of the first to leave because I wouldn't want to work for someone like that, even if the job wasn't commission only. A few of us left, and I found out others were also told it wasn't just for agent hiring.

The interview began with a job briefing given by the regional director. He was a great salesperson and painted a picture of making hundreds of thousands of dollars. My impression was that they assume everyone can easily make that kind of money, but in reality, very few, if any, actually do. They are encouraging and push you hard to succeed, but once I was in, I felt they pushed too hard and wanted me to spend a lot of time away from my family.

I received a call from HR asking if I was interested in a job, having seen my resume on a job site. When I said yes, she told me I'd have an interview at a specific time. I thought this was a bit strange and asked for more details about the job profile and if it was a manager role, also asking if she could email me the job description. She declined to send it by email but asked if I was available at certain times. When I inquired about the location, she said she could only tell me the address (EAGAN) over the phone and would email it once I confirmed my attendance. I got the address and agreed to the interview. She also asked me to come in formals, which I found odd, though I usually wear formals to interviews anyway. After the call, I checked Glassdoor and realized it might be a trap. So, I immediately emailed them to decline my attendance. Thanks to the Glassdoor reviewers!
