The interview process was interesting; I had to complete a skills test before a virtual meeting with a team member. This interview stood out because I had another offer I needed to accept before I could meet the Balto team in person. The Balto team was very professional and communicative during the brief interview process, and I'd definitely recommend checking them out.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

The interview process had four video stages: first, a recruiter screen, then a one-on-one with the Director of CS, followed by a meeting with both the Recruiter and the VP of CS, and finally, a one-on-one culture interview with a founder. The process was okay until the end. After completing all four interviews, which took about 3-4 hours in total, my references were contacted. This is where things went downhill. Despite providing references quickly and them being contacted before noon on Friday, I didn't hear back by Wednesday. I reached out to the recruiter, and after no response, contacted the Head of Talent who apologized and promised a decision the next morning. The following day, I received a rejection email that seemed somewhat canned, stating they found candidates with more direct experience. While this reason is understandable, discovering this so late in the process felt like a waste of time and seemed questionable since they had already contacted my references. Furthermore, not even receiving a call after going through the entire process was very disappointing. My guess is they were deciding between me and another candidate and waited to finish interviewing the other person. While I understand losing out sometimes, the lack of transparency was disheartening and means I won't consider this company in the future.

I first did a phone interview, and then they had me come in for an in-person interview. It was with two people from the team and was about an hour long. They asked me 5 questions about my past 3 jobs, and then asked if I had any questions for them.
