First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ball Aerospace.
Systems Engineer
Had one formal phone interview that was pretty conversational, followed by a draining 8-hour in-person interview day. I met with 8 people across 6 different interviews. Most of the interviews focused on my general experience and past research/work. I had prepared questions and researched the interviewers beforehand. Two interviewers asked more in-depth questions about my skills and personality.
- Regarding software, hardware, testing, and electronics, which area do you feel most confident in, and which are you seeking to improve?
Systems Engineer
I got an email about an offsite interview and went to the location on the scheduled date. It was in a hotel conference room in a different state. The setup wasn't very professional, with the interview area looking a bit messy, using handmade signs to direct people to the room, and tables scattered around for each interviewer. I was surprised by how few people showed up. There were info cards on the tables, including one for the Glassdoor site. After the interview, I looked up Glassdoor and found many negative comments from employees warning about working at Ball Aerospace. BEWARE.
- Can you describe systems you've developed, including any problems encountered and how you solved them?
Systems Engineer
I had an all day interview with a mix of individuals (presumed for specific projects) or a panel of systems engineers and managers across the aerospace division. Each was 50 minutes to an hour and lunch was provided (via offsite local restaurant with 2 systems engineers for 1.5 hours). The questions were a mix of technical and 'team integration / communication' which is necessary for systems engineering.
- Can you tell me about a time you encountered a problem and walk me through how you solved it?
