Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ball Aerospace.
Software Engineer
The interview process involved some initial questions about my project experience using LabView. I was asked to discuss my prior academic and industry projects, with a focus on any LabView-related work they were particularly interested in.
- Can you describe your experience with LabView?
- Could you walk me through your previous project experience, whether from academics or industry, with a specific focus on LabView applications?
Software Engineer
It was a pretty standard interview process. I had to prepare for a lot of example questions using the STARR method. They asked common questions like 'tell me about a time', 'what are your biggest flaws', and 'what systems are you familiar with'. It was a pretty normal interview, nothing too stressful.
- Can you share an instance of a time you failed?
- Can you share an instance of a time?
- What are your greatest weaknesses?
Software Engineer
It started with a professional HR representative from their Colorado office. Then, I had a technical phone screen with common software engineering, language, and design questions. Next was an in-person interview with a group, some joining virtually. We talked about the specific technologies they use, my experience with them, and the system Ball Aerospace is building. After that, the program lead kept me for a one-on-one chat about my work-life balance, which I found a bit questionable given I'm a woman wearing a wedding ring. I never got any follow-up, not even a rejection.
- We talked at length about AngularJS, including its learning curve, application structure, two-way data binding, scope, and dependency injection.
