The interview process was mostly done on Slack. There was a take home assignment that needed to be finished within a week. After the take home, an engineer would review the codebase.
We started with a slack chat, then a take-home coding test, after that a phone interview, and finally a paid trial. It was a fun but long process. The team was nice, and I got to join a real Automattic slack channel to chat with people there.
So I applied and there were some short answer questions that popped up again in the interview. The interview itself was on Slack which I found kinda stressful bc I couldn't tell if I was doing okay. The reason they do Slack interviews is cool though, since it's how they work day-to-day. After that, I would have had a coding challenge and then a paid trial.
