Atlassian Java Developer interviews, decoded.

It started with a coding challenge on HackerRank. It had 3 programming tasks (1 hard, 2 easy/medium) and 15 theoretical questions. The second step was a 2-hour interview where I was given 2 tasks. The first was to implement a request limiter, and the second was to implement a method to count votes from a list of objects.

I was reached out to by an internal recruiter on LinkedIn. Because of COVID-19, all the interviews were conducted over Zoom. In total, there were 5 one-hour interviews: a machine coding round, a data structures round, a system design round, a management interview, and a values interview. Unfortunately, I didn't get an offer as I was told I wasn't quite up to the mark.

It started with a coding challenge, where I was given a sample app and had to modify, add, or delete code to fix bugs and implement features based on a PDF use case. This involved writing Java code, using collections like hashcode and equals for HashSet/Map, and coding unit tests with JUnit. The second round was a face-to-face technical interview with two engineers. They asked about everything on my resume, my past work, and Java concepts, plus I had to code a design pattern. The third round was with a tech manager and focused on behavioral skills and past work.
