Candidate-reported interview process

I got contacted by the hiring manager about a month after applying for an initial interview. It was pretty short and I was only asked a few questions, which I thought was odd. I felt like I nailed it otherwise, I was ready with answers and the HM seemed to like them. So I was pretty bummed to get rejected after the holidays. Guess you can do everything right and still not get it.

The interview was over the phone and lasted about 30 minutes. They asked about my motivation and if my skills and experience fit the role. The interviewer was nice and answered my questions.

It began with a 30-minute chat, then about a week later, I had a 4-hour exercise. I had to create a PowerPoint, an Excel tracker, and an email for someone outside the company. They paid me for the exercise.
