Art of Problem Solving Instructional Designer interviews, decoded.

Interview process started with an HR chat, followed by a math test. This test had about 8 problems that needed explaining to one of the current staff members. After that, there was a teaching demonstration, and the process wrapped up with a chat with the manager.

It was a long and thorough process. They asked me to create lesson plans, complete a practice test, and deliver a mock lesson to their staff. The questions were pretty direct, mainly focusing on curriculum and how I'd adapt it to different student skill levels.

They give you an exam and a presentation. It’s a very long process and they expect a lot. I don’t really like how they interview. They’ll have you call in a day off or fly you out just to interview you. They make you feel like you’re really going to get the job by giving you multiple phone interviews and then reject you the next day. You put in a lot of effort to get hired, but they are not very transparent during the process.
