Appian Software Engineer interviews, decoded.

Had a phone interview with a recruiter first, then a live technical interview with an engineer. The technical part included discussing my resume and then a coding problem. The problem was actually pretty easy. The whole interview process was quite straightforward.

A recruiter reached out on LinkedIn and I set up an initial 15-minute call. After a good chat with HR, they scheduled the first technical discussion. We had a few quick phone calls to find a suitable time for both me and the interviewer. Then came the Technical Discussion: they gave some info about Appian's product and team, asked a few leadership questions, and then had a 15-minute coding exercise where I was given code and had to find values by iterating through hashmap entries. It was a great discussion overall. The weirdest part was not hearing back from HR despite multiple texts and calls, which makes me unsure about the company if HR doesn't give feedback.

Started with a recruiter chat about what the company does and how teams are set up. Then, there was a video interview. This included talking about my resume, past jobs, and some general HR stuff. There was also an average coding question. The recruiter was really nice and humble. But, the person who did the video interview seemed biased and didn't seem to know much even though they were a senior technical person. My advice for management is to ensure interviewers are fair and don't reject candidates for personal reasons.
