Candidate-reported interview process

It started with a quick 15-minute phone call to go over my experience and salary ideas. Then, I had a virtual interview with a Senior Director, which went really well and felt like a good conversation with insightful, though not unusual, questions. Because of my background, they asked me some different questions than they might normally. After that, there was a writing assignment where I had to suggest improvements for a client's functionality, which felt like a way to get free work. I thought my suggestions were good, but I got rejected a few days later without any explanation, and they ignored my request for feedback.

I applied online on a Thursday morning and got an email within hours asking for more screening answers. After I did that, HR scheduled me for an interview the very next day. The call was on time, but the person started with, "Hi, this will only be a 10-15 minute interview," which felt off. They then asked me the same things I'd already answered, like "What is your salary range," and, "When can you start?" I didn't get why they were avoiding job talk and seemed nervous. I got a rejection email without even talking to a hiring manager. It was a bad screening process and a waste of my time.

The interview process was pretty standard. It involved a phone screen, a first round interview, a writing sample, and then a second round interview before they made an offer. In the first round, I spoke with someone from HR and the director of customer service. For the second interview, I had to fill out a form beforehand with more detailed questions about my past work experience. Then, I met with the CTO, the same director, HR, and the person who would be my day-to-day manager. The way they set up their interviews really shows they're serious about finding the right person.
