Candidate-reported interview process

The interview started with them mentioning they were close to making an offer for the role to another candidate, but wanted to check my interest in interviewing for a possibly lower-level position down the line.

Phone interview with HR, then a phone interview with the manager, then a phone interview with some department staff. No panel interview or behavioral questions. Straight to the point. Took about 3 weeks.

I was invited to 3 one hour interviews and then never heard back from HR. HR should have had the professional courtesy to provide follow-up on status of position or even a thanks for applying but we selected a more qualified candidate email. Very unprofessional. I was excited about the organization and position but that was a disappointment.
