Candidate-reported interview process

Applied online in March 2017. Got a call back within a week for a phone interview that was about 30 minutes. Then had two in-person interviews, each over an hour long. The final interview felt professional and nice, but then out of nowhere, I had to talk to a manager I wasn't expecting. I felt totally unprepared for that. I thought the interview went really well until that last part. It felt like a curveball to ask an entry-level candidate to speak with a senior person they didn't know they would meet, especially when that person asked just two really tough questions. Three weeks later, still no word from HR, so I guess I didn't get it.

Saw the job online and got a response in about three weeks. Then I had a two-day meeting with different people from the department, followed by a meeting with HR. I got hired about two weeks after all the interviews.

I had a phone interview with the recruiter/HR, and it went great. Then, I had an in-person interview that lasted a bit over an hour. I spoke with two people about the role and got to ask them questions. It felt pretty conversational but still professional. Everything seemed to be going well, and they said they'd be in touch. Three months went by with no word. Another month passed, and I randomly got a generic email saying they had chosen a different candidate. I was really disappointed with how long it took and that they didn't keep me updated. I think companies should definitely let applicants know one way or another within a month.
