Allstate Data Engineer interviews, decoded.

First, there was this recorded video interview thingy where I had to introduce myself and talk about my background. They asked some really general questions, and I could record myself multiple times. Then, I had a virtual onsite which was split into 4 sessions. These included python coding challenges, sql case study challenges, a resume dig-in, and a questions session. I met different data engineers in each session.

Campus interview process: 1hr phone interview -10 mins to go through resume -20 mins for CTCI style questions: "check if string has unique characters" -20 mins for Relational algebra + design a database for some company with given parameters -10 mins for ending questions ON-SITE: 1hr behavorial 2hrs for technical coding questions 1hr for lunch 2hrs for data engineer type questions

It began with a recruiter call, just basic questions about me and two behavioral questions. The recruiter also outlined the rest of the process: a behavioral interview, then a tech interview/case study, and finally an in-person stage with a presentation. After that, I had a behavioral video interview. That's when things went south. I was told to prep using the STAR method for a behavioral interview, but on the Skype call, it turned into a tech interview with coding problems. I wasn't ready and bombed the algorithmic part. They also threw in a hypothetical case study about optimizing a database. Honestly, the disorganization made it a bad experience with Allstate.
