Adjust Backend Engineer interviews, decoded.

I applied and immediately got an email with a coding challenge to complete in 3 business days. I submitted it but never heard back. Then, I was messaged on LinkedIn saying they were interested but for a frontend role, even though my title is backend. I asked if it was full-stack or just frontend, and they confirmed just frontend. I told them I'm not interested in frontend with them and questioned if I'd even be considered for backend after the challenge. I decided not to waste any more time.

First, I talked to a recruiter who gave me a general overview of what the company does and outlined the interview stages. Next, I had to complete a coding challenge where I built a small REST app. After that, I had a technical interview with some lead developers where they asked me questions about Python and SQL. Finally, I had two chats: one with the prospective Team Lead and another, more casual one about culture fit with developers from different teams.

The interview process was super fast. I got help with everything and could ask the hiring team any questions. This meant I knew exactly what to expect going into the interviews.
