Achievement Prep Teacher interviews, decoded.

There was one round of interviews. I had to fill out an interview packet with essay questions about my education beliefs. Then I did a model lesson and got feedback. After that, I toured the school and answered typical interview questions from a panel of 3 staff members.

The Glassdoor reviews were a bit intimidating, but I decided to go into the interview with an open mind. About halfway through, I realized this wasn't the right place for me for two main reasons: they seemed to lack knowledge in the field of education and showed a lack of respect for the teaching profession. It was definitely the best decision I've made to keep searching and turn this opportunity down. I really love my current job, and the leadership team there truly values teachers. My advice to the founder would be to perhaps take some leadership classes or professional development on how to build a positive school culture.

I had to sample teach a 2nd grade lesson, then debrief with the admin team. The students were really wild and disrespectful - talking over me, leaving class, even fighting. The Dean of Culture had to step in. My lesson was engaging with hands-on activities and tech, but the students seemed determined to be disruptive. The admin team seemed to appreciate it most when I raised my voice and acted unprofessionally to get them to stop talking and stay in their seats. That's not my usual approach, but it seems necessary here to maintain control.
