First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Zynga.
Data Scientist
I interviewed for Natural Motion, which is part of Zynga. I got through HR, then a quick SQL test, and then met with management who were really nice and smart. Finally, I spoke with a senior data scientist and what I think was a product lead. I didn't do well on the gacha question at the end, so they decided not to move forward with me. Despite not getting the job, the process was really professional, and they even gave me feedback, which is something you rarely get from other companies.
- A brief SQL questionnaire was administered.
- A simple gacha problem was presented.
Data Scientist
They gave me a test that they said would take about 2 hours, but the test itself stated 6.5 hours and it did take that long. This was after a phone interview. They didn't get back to me after I completed it. I emailed them a week and then two weeks later to find out they had decided to go with other candidates. I asked for feedback on my test performance, but they never responded.
- Can you describe your skills and how they align with the requirements of this position?
Data Scientist
The interview journey involved two initial telephonic interviews followed by three in-person rounds. The first two 1.5-hour telephonic rounds, which took place over a month due to reschedules, covered a range of technical topics like Python, SQL, and modeling using Coderpad, with some overlap. The in-person portion lasted a full day, with most interviewers from the earlier rounds participating again, except for the product manager interview. The process felt unnecessarily long with exhaustive theoretical questions in Stats, Modeling, Python, and SQL, which could have been assessed more efficiently. The HR department was professional and managed the process smoothly.
- Questions covering Statistical tests, logistic regression, clustering, bagging and boosting, Python, SQL were asked.
