Got contacted by a recruiter for an initial 30 min phone screen. Then hooked up with another recruiter who managed the rest of the process and introduced me to the RVP. Had a more detailed 30 min screen with the RVP. After that, there was a panel interview with a rep, CSM, and SA manager. This panel focused on my sales process, prospecting strategies, and examples of teamwork and complex deals. Next, I interviewed with the AVP who really drilled down into my background and methods. This was followed by a mock sales pitch on Zuora, presented to the RVP, AVP, and the panel members. This part required research on Zuora and a target customer. Finally, I met with the VP of Americas Sales. He was a really interesting guy and got into my thinking and problem-solving skills. After that, they gave me an offer. Be ready for these interviews; the product and sales cycle are complex, and they want sharp people.

I was surprised at how unprepared the interviewer seemed, it felt like he was just filling his diary. I was concerned that he couldn't answer any of my questions, which I'd expect a good candidate to ask if they'd done their research. Towards the end, he decided not to move me to the next stage with the Sales Manager. When I asked why, he cited a few things he already knew from my CV. If he had such concerns, why did he waste my time with a face-to-face meeting? Given he had no prior enterprise selling experience, I couldn't understand how he was qualified to make this judgment. Personally, I feel he knew I wouldn't be a 'yes-man' and just accept their unrealistic expectations. By then, I realized I didn't want the role anyway, as it seemed like a toxic sales culture, and I saw similar experiences on Glassdoor six months prior.

I got found on LinkedIn by their Director of Talent. First, there was a screening call. Then, a phone interview with the RVP of sales. After that, an in-person interview with the RVP and VP. I also had an in-person interview with the Director of Talent. Then, I did a sales presentation. Next, an in-person interview with the CEO. Finally, a CFO phone interview, and then references.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • Considering the high caliber of the sales leadership team, how will you bring your A-game to this role?
  • Given that the product isn't a simple 'pay and play' sale, explain your qualifications for managing a strategic sales cycle, particularly if you lack extensive SaaS billing experience.
