First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Zoox.
Autonomous Vehicle Operator
I got this job through a recruiter. It took a few weeks because they're just setting up this new facility in South Florida. First, I talked to the recruiters for an initial interview, and then I had a Zoom interview. Right after that Zoom call, within the same week, I did the driver test. The recruiters were really good at keeping me updated and letting me know what to expect.
- Tell me what you know about our company.
- What led you to find out about us?
Autonomous Vehicle Operator
I went through Manpower agency in Las Vegas and had to get my covid booster shot, pass a typing test with over 40 WPM, and show a license that was at least 3 years old. The hiring managers, Ravneet Singh and China Gordon, interviewed me. They asked about my time with a competitor since I have prior experience driving their vehicles. I said I'm passionate about autonomous vehicles and have been driving for over 10 years without any accidents, emphasizing safety and communication. I think I was professional and gave insights into the company's future. They mentioned their safety protocols are similar to my previous employer's. I also mentioned I'm studying programming and want to move into that role eventually. I made it clear I wanted to work for Zoox and thought I would get the job. However, my recruiter called and said they weren't moving forward because the hiring manager felt I didn't express enough interest, which is strange because I was really enthusiastic about the operator role. I was engaged and professional. I think they rejected me for something petty, possibly because when asked about day or night shifts, I said I was open to any shift the company needed, instead of picking one. My recruiter also said I shouldn't have talked about my previous employer, but they brought it up first. It's incompetent if they aren't hiring experienced people in this sector.
- Are you able to debug a computer system
Vehicle Operator
The interview process had 3 parts. First, a typing test managed by a third-party recruiter, where you could retake it as many times as needed to hit 45 WPM. You do this on your own and send proof. Then, there was a virtual interview with a full-time employee. Finally, an on-site interview that included another typing test (3 attempts for 45 WPM) and a driving test. The driving test lasted about 40 minutes and involved driving on public roads and highways, including some parallel parking.
- What makes you want this job?
- Can you tell me about your background?
- Why are you interested in the role?
