Sales Development Representative
Had 2 interviews. The first was a 25 minute phone interview, where they asked me to tell them about myself, my experiences, a process of my work, and a difficult situation I faced. The second interview was 1 hour, and was more of the same. They really focused on my non-relevant experiences to find out about my competence, which was awesome. I felt like I could be genuine, and because I was good at my other non relevant job, they valued that and offered me position.
- Can you tell me about yourself and your experiences?
- Describe a difficult situation you've encountered at work.
- Walk me through a detail-oriented process in your current role.
Sales Development Representative
The interview process included 4 rounds: an initial phone screen, an HR manager interview, a written test, and a role play round. After each round, I had to follow up via call/email to schedule the next one. The final round was with the director because the sales manager was busy. The interview lasted about 30-40 minutes, and the director asked several questions about my past experiences and suitability for the role, which had already been covered in the HR manager round. I felt I had a strong background and relevant experience. I'm not sure what went wrong. A week later, I received an email stating I didn't pass the round. I felt I performed well, but I don't know if they expect unusual skills for a cold calling job.
- Can you describe a challenging situation you experienced with a former manager?
- What do you consider to be your strengths and weaknesses?
- What prompted your departure from your previous sales position?
Sales Development Representative
The interview experience was pretty good and professional overall. Everyone I talked to was nice and respectful. It started with a phone screening, then a virtual interview with the sales directors and managers. After that, I did a mock phone interview. They gave me feedback and asked me to try again, which was a pretty helpful and easy task. But, it's worth noting that even though the job ad said no prior sales experience was needed, it was clear they really wanted people with actual sales backgrounds. I felt like I did a good job connecting my past experience to the role and got good feedback, but it was obvious that not having traditional sales experience was an issue. I'm not mad about it, it's just how things go, but I think the company could be more upfront about what they're really looking for, especially since it's an inbound role.
- Can you share an instance of failure?
- Describe a situation where you had to change a 'yes' to a 'no'.
- What's your approach to handling rejection?
