I was contacted by a Zocdoc recruiter for a Lead Product Analyst position. I went through a full interview loop, including a hiring manager interview, technical rounds, and a final panel with four other team members. I had mentioned upfront that I couldn't do take-home assignments due to limited time. After the final panel, I waited two weeks for a decision. Unexpectedly, I was asked to do a take-home assignment over the holidays, even though I thought the prior round was the last one. I was initially told I'd hear back within two business days. Other candidates mentioned similar changes in their timelines. I asked for clarification since I was told the previous round was the final stage. I declined the assignment because I didn't want to work during the holidays. The hiring manager then suggested I do it after the holidays, knowing I had travel plans. I agreed, which gave me false hope, like others have said. He said it would be a chance to show my work to the team and leaders. I did the assignment, planned it out, and prepared a presentation. However, in the follow-up presentation interview, only the hiring manager and one colleague were there, no leaders. I didn't get to present my work. Instead, they asked about how they'd implement the plan and then rejected me. The candidate's effort wasn't really valued. After completing the assignment, I wasn't allowed to present my work but was asked detailed questions about the plan.

The interview process was pretty standard. It mostly focused on behavioral and product questions, with some basic SQL and Excel questions thrown in. The technical parts weren't super difficult, but they expect a good level of product sense for this data-focused role, so definitely prepare for that.

Phone screen with the "technical recruiter." Bro sounded like he was still asleep. Most of the call was spent on questions like sponsorship status that should have been on the online form. Funny when he started talking about personal first round interviews that made him run for the hills, when that's exactly how he made me feel. Didn't sell the position or role at all, awkward, very fill-in-the-blanks conversation. Pass.
